Live in the “Now”

I want to share some quotes with you that have been helpful to me.

“He who has so little knowledge of human nature as to seek happiness by changing anything but his own disposition will waste his life in fruitless effort and multiply the grief which he proposes to remove.” Again, it comes back to knowing who you are and what you don’t want.

“Failure is the productive part of success. It provides a road that does not have to be traveled again.” How many reading this have failed at something? Does failure measure your success? Does failure determine who you are? Does failure determine your success?  Failure determines your amount of knowledge. Knowledge can determine your success.

“Do not allow the criticisms of others to steal your dreams or stop you from moving forward.  Are you going to give up or get up?”

“Our past gives us our identity; the future holds the promise of our salvation and fulfillment. Yet both are an illusion. To be successful, you must live in present time.” This is why the three letter word “now” is absolutely so powerful, and we can all use it.

You must accept and proclaim what it is that you want now, because you live in the now. You don’t live five minutes ago—you will not be alive five minutes from now. Five minutes from now you’ll be in the now.

When you come from that space of knowing, the sky is the limit, the universe is the limit. Just grab it and go. There isn’t one of you reading this who could not be a Crown Diamond in 12 months. If you really knew that and you knew it to where you could feel it, taste it, and breathe it—you would do it!

The Writing Road to Success

Every single person reading this who wants to be successful needs to write a minimum of 30 minutes a day. It’s going to do two things for you. One, it’s going to start you on the road to success. Two, it’s going to create a paradigm shift in you. And three, it will align you with the universe. These are all the things that will take you to success.

I always smile when people ask me what to do for their mother, their aunt, their uncle, their cousin, and they don’t have a pen or a paper in their hand. So what is the real intent? I want you to write this down: the dullest pencil is sharper than the brightest mind. Always write, write. This is extremely important!

Maybe you need to ask yourself, “What do I want and where do I want to go with this business?” That’s after what we started out with what you don’t want, because it’s more important to know what you don’t want than it is to know what you do want. Knowing what you don’t want is vital. Once you know that, then you can start lining up on what you do want.

Find a Way—Make It Happen!

I talked to my father for two years about my desire to move to Canada. Finally, when I was 17, I just said, “Dad, I’m sorry; I can’t stay here. I’m not going to live like this.” I loaded my two horses in my horse trailer and went to Canada.

At first I was rejected because I was underage. However, I got to the border and they asked me where I was going. I said, “I’m going to Canada; I’m going to homestead.”

They asked, “How old are you? Where’s your passport? Where’s your birth certificate? Where’s all this information?”

I replied, “Nobody told me I needed to bring it.” So they let me go into Canada, but not as an immigrant; I went through as a visitor and went to the Caribou District. It was great. It was beautiful. And I got a job.

Then I got a notice that I had to either go back to the States or I could immigrate. I went to the immigration office, as a 17 year old, and asked, “Well, how do I immigrate?”

I was told, “You can’t; you’re underage. You’ve got to have a family member sponsor you.”

What Might Have Been

We lived in the most majestic place in Idaho—among the mountains. Where we lived, we were right at the foot of Twin Peaks, which was the second highest mountain in the state. We were 9 miles from it. Our hunting territory went from our home all the way to the Sawtooths in western Idaho, and it was just huge. I had ridden almost every mile of that country on a horse. It didn’t matter whether it was Rocky Mountain big-horn sheep that we hunted, or cougar, or bear, or elk, or big mule deer–it was all in our territory. We had such a phenomenal opportunity!

I had said, “Dad, if you will do this, I’ll take a full-time job from school, and I’ll make the payments on the loan; but they won’t make the loan to me at age 15.”

But he said, “No, I am not going to go into debt.”

Old Paradigms Can Destroy

When I was a preteen, I listened to my father tell a friend, “You know, with my luck, if I were riding my horse down the trail and saw a large gold nugget lying on the trail, by the time I picked it up, put it in my saddlebag, and got it to the bank, it would have turned into a road apple.” (For city folks, a road apple is a cow pie.)

That was my father’s belief system that I grew up with, that nothing good could happen in my father’s life. Then he died as a result of an accident and cancer at the age of 60. I took care of him, paid his hospital bills, paid for his funeral, including his coffin, because he died penniless and left my mother with nothing. Then I took care of her until she died two years ago.

Changing Your Paradigm

If you’re going to change the paradigm, you've got to change everything. You've got to change how you think. You've got to change how you react. You've got to change how you look at it. You've got to change how you think about it. You have to work at it every day, because human beings are people who love to live in a rut. And you know what a rut is.

One of the greatest examples of a rut goes back to the 1840s, when the big land run on Oklahoma was happening. Those big, old prairie schooners were loaded down with a ton of supplies and plows and whatever, and then the pioneers headed across the Oklahoma Territory to stake their land.

Work Forward Not Backward

We spend much more time working backwards than working forwards. After you balance your checkbook, while you’ve got it out, you think, “Oh my goodness, my check I just wrote this morning is going to bounce.” Or, “holy cow, I don’t have enough money left to go buy groceries.” Or whatever, but it puts you in a negative space, true or false? And how many of you have lived that way in your life? Most everybody has from time to time, if not for their entire life.

So my point is, do you really want to change the paradigm? And folks, the old paradigm is not worth 20 cents in your pocket. How many of you really want to change? How many really want to shift?

What Is Your Source?

The bottom line is, do you want to be successful or not? How many of you want to be successful at what you love? So then write it down. There’s no greater joy than being successful at what you love to do.

How many of you hate paying your bills? Come on, be honest. Ask yourself, why do I hate paying my bills? Is it because there’s generally not enough money to go around or none left over after you do pay them?

Write down why it is that you don’t like paying your bills. Is it because there’s not enough money left over for other things after the bills are paid, true or false? Okay, so you resent paying your bills because it diminishes what’s in your bank account.
