Patchouli

Patchouly
Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), sometimes called "the scent of the '60s," has a musky, earthy, exotic aroma with sensual properties. In Eastern cultures it is commonly used around the house to provide general support for health and to help release negative emotions so that problems can be kept in proportion.

It is very beneficial for the skin, helping to reduce a wrinkled or chapped appearance. Patchouli is a general tonic that helps with the digestive system and occasional queasiness.

Patchouli has an approximate ORAC of 494,271 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter.

How to use: For dietary, aromatic, or topical use. When using as a supplement, dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid such as goat's or rice milk.

Palo Santo

Palo Santo
Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens), also known as "Holy Wood," is an essential oil high in limonene (60-65%), about the same amount found in Young Living's lemon essential oil.

Palo Santo has been used for years in folk medicines and in liniments and has properties similar to frankincense. Palo Santo can also be worn as a perfume to release negative energy.

How to use: For topical use, apply 1-2 drops on affected area. For aromatic use, inhale directly as needed or diffuse/humidify for 10-15 minutes daily.

Finding Help in Jordan

While driving from Israel into Petra, I was thinking that I had to find somebody to help me in Jordan, so I decided to go to the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Having stayed there many times, I know a lot of people and thought maybe they would be able to direct me to someone who could help. However, when I arrived at the Crowne Plaza, it was closed for renovation.

So I drove back downtown. I hadn’t eaten so I pulled into another hotel and thought that it would probably have a restaurant, maybe a buffet, and sure enough there was a buffet. A gentleman greeted me and showed me to a seat. As he handed me the menu, he said, “How may I help you?”

I looked up at him and said, “As a matter of fact, you can help me. I need a man who knows the King of Jordan, a man who knows the Minister of Tourism, a man who speaks English, a man who knows camels, and a man who knows the history of frankincense—and I need a man who can help me with the Jordanian national television station.”

He blinked his eyes and stepped back and said, “Well, could I have a minute to make a couple of phone calls?”
I said, “Sure.”

I filled my plate at the buffet, sat down, and started eating. A man walked up to my table and said, “I understand you want to talk to somebody who knows about camels. I work in the Aqaba office, and my boss’s name is Omar. Omar has been a tour operator for 27 years, he speaks 5 languages, and he was an ambassador to the United States. He’s related to the king, and his sister works for the Jordanian national television station.”

Omar is now on our advisory committee

Romance the Positive

We are all attached to what we don’t want, because it’s a negative. What you romance, you keep. It’s like a flower. All of you have had houseplants. If you water them, they survive; if you don’t water them, they die. Mary doesn't romance houseplants, she romances me.

But what do we find ourselves doing? We romance the negative side of our lives and create more of it. I've watched hundreds of marriages where people romance the negativity in their relationship, and they make it bigger and bigger and bigger. And if you ask them what they don’t want, they can’t tell you. They can tell you what they want, but they don’t know how to get it until they understand what they don’t want.

This is why I said to write it down and become very clear on what you don’t want. You need to write it down and put it up on your mirror in your bathroom and on your refrigerator, wherever you can see it throughout your day. If you've got a job and you work in an office, then put a note about the thing that you don’t want on the wall of the office. Do this until it starts to bug you to the point that you can’t stand looking at it. And after you’re fed up looking at it, then you can start looking at what you do want. Then write it down and put it beside the negative.

You see, in order to create a paradigm shift, you've got to get angry. You've got to be angry at what you don’t want, because it takes this emotion to move you out of the rut.

The Tooth . . . & Nothing But the Tooth

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), baby boomers will be the first generation where the majority “will maintain their natural teeth over their lifetime.” Why? The fundamental differences between previous generations and the baby boomers are education and product quality.

But despite improvements in oral-health education and superior products, one out of every 20 adults or 5 percent of baby boomers between the ages of 40–59 is still missing ALL of his or her teeth, requiring full dentures or implants. When considering the preventative cost of good dental hygiene in comparison to the therapeutic cost of implants or dentures, choosing and using the most effective oral-care products becomes a critical priority.

That is why Young Living offers a variety of toothpastes to meet individual needs, has improved Thieves® Dental Floss for more effective results, and provides Thieves Fresh Essence Plus Mouthwash, which thoroughly cleans teeth and gums while freshening your breath.

Line Up Your Sights

Folks, if you don’t use things in your life to line up your sight, you’re going to miss your target. What is your greatest thing for lining your sight that you can do? Exactly what you’re doing, writing it down. Writing it down is your rear sight. That allows you to reflect on what you’ve written down and to do a self-evaluation: “Is this really what I want?” That’s your rear sight, and that’s your most critical one. Because if that rear sight isn’t lined up, you’re not going to make it, you’re not going to hit your target.

Your front sight is your goal, which you’re writing down. Align that rear sight (what you want) to your goal to keep you focused.

ART Secrets

ART Beauty Masque
Following our recent Young Living Beauty School event, I received questions about the research behind our ART® orchid line, which includes two wonderful products: ART Beauty Masque and ART Renewal Serum.

The benefits of both of these products, and specifically the use of the orchid flower, are based on thousands of years of Chinese herbal medicine. It is believed that orchids have the ability to absorb and retain moisture and adapt well to many extreme environments. The longevity of the flowers is the key benefit that is utilized for skin care.

Find a Way—Make It Happen!

I talked to my father for two years about my desire to move to Canada. Finally, when I was 17, I just said, “Dad, I’m sorry; I can’t stay here. I’m not going to live like this.” I loaded my two horses in my horse trailer and went to Canada.

At first I was rejected because I was underage. However, I got to the border and they asked me where I was going. I said, “I’m going to Canada; I’m going to homestead.”

They asked, “How old are you? Where’s your passport? Where’s your birth certificate? Where’s all this information?”

I replied, “Nobody told me I needed to bring it.” So they let me go into Canada, but not as an immigrant; I went through as a visitor and went to the Caribou District. It was great. It was beautiful. And I got a job.

Then I got a notice that I had to either go back to the States or I could immigrate. I went to the immigration office, as a 17 year old, and asked, “Well, how do I immigrate?”

I was told, “You can’t; you’re underage. You’ve got to have a family member sponsor you.”

About Face

Every 30-60 days, your skin completely replaces itself by eliminating dead cells and allowing new cells to flourish. This sloughing-off process keeps your skin healthy and looking more youthful. Unfortunately, environmental debris, including makeup, can impede the removal of dead skin cells and keep younger cells hidden beneath.

Properly exfoliating is crucial to healthy skin, and Young Living’s Satin Facial Scrub, Mint gently reveals a more radiant, younger-looking complexion. Its effective removal of cells also facilitates the absorption of nourishing serums and moisturizers designed to prolong a youthful appearance.
