Essential 7: Peppermint Part 2

The Essential 7™  is a collection of seven of Young Living’s premiere single oils and oil blends. YL’s Doug Corrigan and Karen Boren are guest bloggers for a series sharing information that will teach you the many ways the Essential 7 kit can enrich your life.

DOUG: You mentioned peppermint, Karen, how it impacts us topically—especially with its powerful phytochemical menthol.

KAREN: Peppermint is multifaceted. Anyone who gets to that certain age where joints start creaking a bit will find that that peppermint on the knees is just bliss! I love balsam fir for that as well but peppermint is really the one that has worked on my knees. I think this is a key point for people to know, that oils impact us all a little bit differently. We need to find the ones that work best for us, and like you, I’ve experimented and found out which ones are helpful for me and my body chemistry.

Essential 7: Peppermint Part 1

The Essential 7™  is a collection of seven of Young Living’s premiere single oils and oil blends. YL’s Doug Corrigan and Karen Boren are guest bloggers for a series sharing information that will teach you the many ways the Essential 7 kit can enrich your life.

DOUG: You mentioned peppermint, Karen, and how it impacts us topically and aromatically.

KAREN: Peppermint is such a fabulous oil. I use it for a number of things. But I was really excited to read one of the studies on peppermint, to learn about the increased mental clarity that it gave people. It significantly helped women who were proofreaders so that they were able to spot misspellings. (Interestingly, lavender was the scent that produced the greatest effects for proofreading in males.) Peppermint also improved performance for participants during typing, memorization, and alphabetizing tests.

Beat the Heat with Essential Oils

Peppermint
Use unadulterated essential oils and spend the time to research and educate yourself. If you read the labels carefully, most commercial-brand bottles will say “100% pure,” but they will also say “not for internal consumption or to be used directly on the skin.” However, Young Living essential oils are therapeutic grade and many of them are intended for internal use.

Peppermint and Lavender
Because both peppermint and lavender are versatile essential oils, no home should be without them. Lavender is an adaptogen and, therefore, can assist the body when adapting to stress. Peppermint is a natural tension reliever.
To help you cool off this summer, simply put a drop of peppermint on the back of your neck and the bottoms of your feet. If you have sensitive skin, dilute essential oils in a small amount of carrier oil, like almond oil or olive oil, and apply. You can also place a drop of either oil on a cool, moist cloth and hold at the back of your neck.

A pinch of salt

Finding Strength and Comfort through Essential Oils

The essential oils I used most with him were frankincense, Valor®, Peace & Calming®, lavender, PanAway®, peppermint and Deep Relief™ Roll-On. I chose these oils for their relieving and calming properties. I would apply them to his feet, anywhere he was uncomfortable, and on his pillowcase so he could easily inhale them while he rested in bed. I can honestly say that every time I put the oils on him, he either told me or showed me that he got a little and sometimes a lot of relief from what he was feeling. He would also become less fidgety and feel calmer and more relaxed.

A few hours before my dad passed, the Hospice home caregiver and I gave him a sponge bath with warm water infused with Peace & Calming. Afterwards I anointed his whole body with frankincense. I believe these essential oils helped me remain calm and strong throughout this difficult process.

Five Secrets to Having More Energy and Vitality, part I

According to polarity therapy, a system for healing based on ayurvedic medicine, each element corresponds to certain emotions coupled with specific body-mind connections. Introducing the sense of smell through the use of essential oils allows the limbic system to be addressed through stimulation. Because the limbic system is where the brain stores all emotional memory, this is vital for releasing stuck or dormant emotions.

Energy Secret No. 1
Ether is the element needed for stimulating, activating, harmonizing, and balancing all of the other elements. Without ether, the rest of the elements won’t function properly. A sore throat, an indication that ether is out of sync, can be caused by not speaking our truth, difficulty asking for what we need and want, holding back grief, or feeling like you just don’t have any space in your life.

Essential oil recommendations for balancing ether includes frankincense, lavender, peppermint, Believe™, Thieves®, Deep Relief™ and Valor®.

Energy through Essential Oils

I have found that when I use essential oils in tandem with yoga and energy exercises from Dr. Stone’s Polarity Therapy, my whole being shifts and I can find the power and focus I need to accomplish my purpose.

Fire helps us focus, have confidence, self-discipline, and meet the challenges that often seem to block us. According to Polarity principles, the fire element resides in the solar plexus, thighs, head, and eyes. The essential oils I recommend for boosting and equalizing the fire element are:
