Proper Exercise and Diet

A lot of us live our lives like penned animals. Built to move, too often we put ourselves in a cage. We have bodies designed for racing across the savannas, but we live a lifestyle designed for migrating from the bed to the breakfast table; to the car seat; to the office chair; to the restaurant booth; to the living room couch and back to the bed.

It was not always this way. Not long ago in the United States, a man who worked on a farm did the equivalent of 15 miles of jogging every day; and his wife did the equivalent of 7 miles of jogging.

Today, our daily obligations of work and home keep us tied to our chairs, and if we want exercise, we have to seek it out[...]

Weight Loss Plan: The Goal to Go For

Here are some guidelines from the experts in choosing weight loss plans and goals.
1. Be realistic

Most people’s long-term weight loss plans are more ambitious than they have to be.

For example, if you weigh 170 pounds and your long-term plan is to weigh 120, even if you have not weighed 120 since you were 16 and now you are 45, that is not a realistic weight loss goal.

Your body mass index or BMI is a good indicator of whether or not you need to shed of pounds. The ideal BMI range, according to the national Institutes of Health, is between 19 and 24.9. If your BMI is between 25 and 29.9, you are considered overweight. Any number above 30 is in the obesity range.

From this point of view, you will need a sensible weight loss plan that will correspond to the required BMI based on your height, because this is the primary factor that will affect your BMI.

Home Remedies for Acne

Acne is an age-old problem that has been plaguing mankind probably since time began, so there is a huge treasure trove of home remedies that will prevent or cure acne.

Many of today’s miracle treatments for acne are based upon age-old home remedies that have simply worked and worked very well.

Two misconceptions about acne are very prevalent. The first is that acne is caused by eating certain foods (chocolate, fats, junk food), and this is totally false. Food does not cause acne, but the LACK of certain nutrients CAN cause acne.

The other misconception is that dirt is the cause of acne. This is also false.

Young Living TheraPro Diffuser Effective for Use on Mold

Over the past three months I’ve been testing Young Living’s TheraPro® diffuser for use in conjunction with our protocol for eliminating toxic mold. The tests were conducted in three different environments: a hospital; a closed, mold-infested 9,000-square-foot health club; and a private residence.

I am pleased to report that our tests of the TheraPro diffuser compared favorably with the 6-watt cold-air diffusers we’ve previously been using.

Features that make the TheraPro Diffuser easier to use:
  • Eliminates the tubing and glass nebulizer of the other diffusers tested
  • Has built-in on-and-off timers
  • Holds a full 15 ml bottle of oil
  • Has to be filled less often

Home Remedies for Bad Breath

We would all like to have breath that is fresh as a morning breeze at all times, but that is not something that is even possible.

When we eat and drink the food and beverages leave or cause odors in our mouths.

Of course, not all bad breath comes from the mouth. Many times bad breath originates in the stomach.

Chamomile and Valerian as Home Remedies for Nervousness

Everybody gets nervous or anxious from time to time. These feelings are perfectly natural and to be expected, particularly when one is facing an unknown or stressful situation.

Most people can handle being nervous or anxious or even fearful pretty well on their own. Some of us, though, just simply need a little help to remain calm and in control during stressful situations or just on a day-to-day basis.

Sometimes people don’t even recognize the signs of nervousness, stress, or anxiety in themselves. They might be displaying signs that others can see but that they can’t see.

Maybe they bite their fingernails or have a problem sitting still or concentrating. They might not see these things as signs of nervousness, stress, or anxiety but they really are signs of all of those things.

There are herbs that can help with nervousness, anxiety, and stress. If these herbs are used on a regular basis, they can make those of us who need them calmer and even more productive.

Chamomile: As a tea or in capsule form, chamomile can serve to calm the nerves and give a sense of peace. Chamomile has been used for centuries. There are no side effects — just calming.

Valerian: Valerian has been used for many centuries and by many cultures as a sleep aid and as a calming agent for the nerves. It is effective, and it is safe with no side effects.

Important Things To Remember for Baby Shower

Party Venue Set-up
As dictated by the theme, set-up the party place accordingly.  If it is a layette party, hang a clothesline all around the room and clip colored paper cutouts of baby clothes and stuffs.  For the Hollywood theme, copy the set-up by having a red carpet where guests will walk-in.

Food and Drinks
The other half of a lively party is overflowing food and drinks.  Make sure that as you finalize the number of guests, you are able to buy enough food and drink supplies for the headcount.  Buy an extra 10% more to make sure that hungry guests get their fill.  Like the games and activities list, expand this section to include details on the supplies needed for your specific menu.

Baby Shower Souvenirs
Aside from the game prizes, give your guests a thank you token for attending and participating in the baby shower.  Note that this is different from a thank you card, which will be sent to individual guests as a thank you for their gift.  Thus, guest who may not have brought gifts can still receive this baby shower souvenir.  It does not need to be expensive, especially if there are game prizes given out. Just be sure to have it in-line with your theme to complete the effect.

Celebrate the coming of a newborn in an organized fashion.  Use this checklist of baby shower supplies to plan for a successful baby shower.

Essential Guide to Free Printable Baby Shower Invitations

Thinking of throwing a baby shower, but worried about the cost?  Don’t be… now there are free printable baby shower invitations, which you can use without eating up the budget for your baby’s future.  The Internet offers free invitations (in image format of .jpg or .bmp file extension) that you can download to your computer.  Below is a guide on how to use them.

-At the webpage, click the link to download a file or a group of files (zipped) containing the baby shower invitation design.

-With the help of a picture-viewer software, open the file.  If you downloaded a group of files, you may need to unzip them to show the individual files and choose one that is suitable for your baby shower theme.
-The common invitation card size is a fourth of a letter-sized paper.  However, most printable invitations are laid out using the full letter-sized paper for one card. Such is the case because the page is divided into four equal parts, and eventually folded to form a ¼-sized invitation card.

-Looking at the page, some layouts have a demarcation line to divide the page into the four parts.  If the one you downloaded does not have a dividing line, don’t worry, you can still assemble it easily.

-The upper left portion of the page is the front of the card.  This is where the main design of the card is placed.  You may notice it is inverted as laid out and when printed.  This is normal, as it will become upright after assembly.

Ideas for Baby Shower Centerpieces

There are many things you can use for a baby shower centerpiece. The more traditional centerpieces that are usually used for baby showers are floral arrangements. You can place a selection of your favorite flowers and arrange them in a beautiful basket. If you have a theme color, or motif, you can incorporate it to the décor of your flower arrangement.

There are many different sizes and shapes of basket that you can use for your flower arrangements. The best thing about flower arrangements is that they add an element of the outdoors in your home. The freshness and beauty of these flowers would add a delicate touch to your baby shower.

If you want to make your centerpiece fun, and more delightful, you can add baby things in your floral basket such as: washcloth, soft toys, baby bottles, bears and bunnies, teething toys, small colorful socks, etc. This would fit right into the theme of the baby shower.

But if you don’t want to make your own baby shower centerpiece, you can always buy these floral centerpieces ready made. The price varies depending on what’s included in the pack. The average price of the baby shower basket is around $60. It includes an arrangement of flowers, and baby items such as: rubber ducks, soft toys, blankets, washcloth, rattles and comb & brush sets.

Top 10 Inexpensive Baby Shower Gifts

Are you on a tight budget, but have an important baby shower that you dare not miss?  Don’t worry…here are ten items that you can give as a gift, without breaking the bank.

1.Books. Buy baby board books online for less than $5 a pop (shipping included).  Get discounted rates when buying on a bundle.

2.Baby Clothes.  Any new Mom will appreciate a set of clothes as a baby shower gift.  However, if you plan ahead, you can give the Mom-to-be toddler clothes instead of infant sets.  She’ll surely appreciate the vision.  Another tip is to buy off-season, while the clothes are on clearance.  You can surely fit more than a piece for under $10.

3. Engraved Charms. If a silver or gold bracelet is out of your budget, why not give a personalized jewelry charm?  Choose from several shapes, with heart as being the most popular.  It can be used as a pendant or bracelet charm.  Have the baby’s name and birth date engraved at the back of the charm.

4. Basket of Goodies. In dollar stores, purchase an inexpensive woven basket and decorate it with leftover holiday ribbons.  Line the basket with pastel confetti and fill the basket with goodies, like purse versions of lotion, cologne, powder, diaper pins, wet tissues, anything that the baby needs.  Some of these miniature items are grocery give-aways, so the over-all price comes really low.

5. Painted Pots. Paint clean clay pots with pastel colors and use stencils to place simple designs.  Give a set of three to give the Mom-to-be a handy desktop storage for cotton balls, Qtips, diaper pins, etc.

Eating to Prevent Heartburn for Pregnant

Heartburn does not just affect those who are high stressed or love their spicy foods.  Pregnant women suffer from heartburn too.  You will find as your pregnancy progresses that antacids tend to  become your best friend.   Heartburn has nothing to do with your heart.

It is when the acid from your stomach leaks up into the esophagus.  Heartburn is very common during pregnancy.  In fact one in four women experience heartburn during their pregnancy usually during the third trimester.  The reason is that your baby has grown a tremendous amount and your uterus has moved up and is now putting pressure on your stomach.  This crowds the digestive tract and allows acids to travel back up the esophagus.   There is an old wives tale that if you have bad heartburn, your baby will have a lot of hair.   Of course there is no proof in this but it is a fun thing to believe in.

There are ways you can help prevent heartburn during pregnancy.  You can start by taking your time while you eat.  Not only will you enjoy your food better but your stomach will not have to work as hard to digest your food.  You also want to try eating early and eat at least two hours before you go to bed that night so your body has plenty of time to digest your food.

Plus Size and Pregnant

A majority of plus sized women who are pregnant will experience a healthy pregnancy, but they are at a risk of having a more bumpy ride than someone who is not overweight.

Women who are overweight, or have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or more are at a greater risk of certain pregnancy complications like gestational diabetes and preeclampsia.  No knows for sure why weight matters so much, as far as most doctors are concerned it is just one piece of the puzzle.  The truth is most plus size women go on to have completely uneventful pregnancies and deliver perfect healthy babies as long as they eat well, exercise and watch their weight throughout pregnancy.  The biggest problem with being plus sized and pregnant is that you are at a greater for some of the following.

Studies have shown that overweight women have a higher rate of neural tube defects which are problems with how your baby’s brain and spinal cord develop.  These studies are unable to pin point exactly why overweight women are at a higher risk and have a higher rate.  Some studies have shown that overweight women have lower blood folate levels than a woman who is of normal weight.  Folate is needed especially in the early stages of pregnancy to help avoid neaural tube defects.  Because of this, if you are overweight your doctor may prescribe you a prenatal vitamin with 1000 micrograms of folic acid.  In fact, if you are overweight and planning on becoming pregnant, you may want to start taking folic acid before you even conceive.

Eating Well Even After Your Pregnancy

Congratulations and welcome to parenthood.  Your body has gone through a lot these past nine months and it still has a while to go before it is back to normal.  The next few months are going to give you and your body a whole new set of challenges especially if you are a first time parent.  Recovering from childbirth is exhausting and when you throw a new baby who has no concept of time into the mix and you might find your head spinning.  Eating well during this time is almost as important as eating well during your pregnancy.

Your body has just been through a traumatic ordeal.  If you gave birth vaginally, you mind find yourself recovering from tears and what not.  If you gave birth via c-section, you are recovering from major surgery.   The first thing most hospitals and doctors like to make sure is that your plumbing and waste systems are working.

Eating high fiber food and drinking lots of water after your delivery will help make that first bowel movement a lot less painful.  This can be a little hard for women who delivery via c-section because they are usually on a liquid diet for the first 24 hours. You may find you need a little help from either stool softeners or prune juice to make that first trip a little easier.

Once you are home from the hospital, you are going to need your energy to take care of the baby.   Gone are the nights where you were able to get a full 8 hours of sleep.  You might not see that again for at least three months,  though ask any parent and they will tell you that getting 8 hours of sleep a night will not happen until your kids are grown and married. Sleep deprivation can wreak havoc on you and it is important that you eat healthy to maintain a decent amount of energy.
